Government Affairs Committee

The Buffalo Niagara Partnership’s  government affairs initiatives link individual employers and the regional employer community as a whole with local, state and federal officials on issues and opportunities to increase the business competitiveness of our members and, in turn, of the overall region.   Through initiatives such as Unshackle Upstate, Great Lakes Metro Chambers Coalition, and the Regional Agenda, and election related efforts of the Committee for Economic Growth and BNP PAC (the Partnership’s state and federal PACs, respectively) to support employer-friendly candidates for elected office, the Partnership is delivering results via advocacy “wins” and Election Night successes.

Our advocacy efforts and aggressive political engagement the past three years have led to important developments such as the 2% property tax cap in 2011 and enactment of “Proceeds” in 2012, and have given the Partnership a “seat at the table,” both as a member of the Western Regional Economic Development Council, and during important legislative conversations in Albany.  As 2013 progresses, the Partnership continues to be an effective voice for the Buffalo Niagara employer community, pushing for more employer-friendly initiatives in the New York State budget, leading the discussion on business regulatory reform issues and connecting our member investors with the government’s decision makers.
